Effective date: 16 October 2026
Version: 3
These terms apply to East African Directory, the public business directory at eastafricandirectory.com. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy.
1. Who we are
East African Directory is run by Neptunes Solutions Limited, a company incorporated in Uganda with its office in Gulu. In these terms "Neptunes", "we", "us" and "our" mean Neptunes Solutions Limited, and "the directory" means the website eastafricandirectory.com and everything shown on it.
- Post: P.O. Box 361128, Uganda
- Email: info@neptunes.co.ug
- Website: neptunes.co.ug
2. These terms and how you accept them
The directory lists businesses and organisations in East Africa so that people can find them.
- If you only look at the directory, you accept these terms by using it.
- If you list a business, you also accept them when you tick the box that says you agree and create your account.
If you do not agree, please do not use the directory. If you and Neptunes have signed a separate written agreement, that agreement comes first where it says something different.
3. Looking at the directory
Browsing and searching the directory is free. You do not need an account to look at listings.
You may use what you find to contact a listed business about its own goods and services. Section 10 says what you may not do.
4. No endorsement of listed businesses
A listing is information about a business. It is not a recommendation.
- We do not own, run, inspect or supervise the businesses listed, and we are not their agent.
- We do not check that a business holds any licence, permit or registration, that its goods or services are of any quality, or that its prices are fair.
- Any contact, purchase, payment or agreement between you and a listed business is between the two of you. We are not a party to it.
Before you pay a business or rely on it, make your own checks.
5. Listing a business
Who may list. You may list a business or organisation if it really exists, it works in or serves one of the countries the directory covers, you are at least 18 years old, and you are its owner or a person it has authorised to speak for it. If you list a business without that authority, you are personally responsible for the listing.
Your account. A listing is managed through an account that signs in with an email address and a password. Keep the password secret and tell us straight away at info@neptunes.co.ug if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what is done through your account.
Accuracy is your responsibility. You must give true and complete details and keep them up to date: the name, what the business does, its addresses and branches, phone numbers, email address, website, opening hours, map position, logo and pictures. We do not write or check these details for you.
What you publish is public. Everything you put on a listing is shown to anyone and can be found through search engines. Do not put on a listing anything that you do not want to be public, such as a private phone number or a home address. The email address you sign in with is not shown on your listing. If you enter a public contact email, that address is shown to anyone; you can change or hide it from your dashboard.
Other people's details. Do not put another person's personal details on a listing unless that person has agreed.
Lawful businesses only. Do not list a business whose activity is unlawful where it operates, and do not use a listing to advertise unlawful goods or services.
6. Checks, the "Verified" badge and claiming a listing
Confirming your email address. When you register, we send a link to your email address. Your listing is shown to the public after you confirm the address. Confirming an email address proves only that you can read that mailbox.
Review. We do not examine every listing before it is shown. We may look at any listing at any time, ask you for proof, hold a listing back for review, or correct its category or place so that it can be found.
The "Verified" badge. A business may ask us to verify it. We ask for proof that the business exists and that the person asking is authorised to represent it. Verification is free and does not depend on a paid plan. The badge means that, when we checked, the business gave us that proof. It does not mean that we recommend the business, that we have checked the quality of its goods or services, that it holds every licence it needs, or that its details have not changed since. We may remove the badge if the details change or we can no longer confirm them.
Listings marked "Not yet verified". Some listings were carried over from an earlier version of the directory or were put together from information that businesses had already made public. Nobody has claimed them yet, and they are marked "Not yet verified".
Claiming a listing. If one of these listings is about your business, you may ask to take it over by writing to us through the contact page, or with "Is this your business? Claim it" on the listing's page. We will ask for proof before we hand it over. If two people claim the same listing, we decide on the proof we are given, and we may refuse both.
If a listing is about you and you do not want it. See section 9 of our Privacy Policy: you can ask us to correct it or take it down.
7. Suspending and removing listings
You may ask us to remove your listing and close your account at any time by writing to info@neptunes.co.ug from the account's email address.
We may edit, hide, suspend or remove a listing, and suspend or close an account, where:
- the details are false, misleading, out of date or copied from someone else;
- the business has closed, cannot be reached, or does not answer our request for proof;
- the listing or the account breaks these terms or the law, or infringes someone's rights;
- someone with a better right to the listing claims it;
- a court or an authority requires it;
- it is needed to protect the directory or the people who use it.
Where we reasonably can, we will tell the account's email address what we have done and why. We may act first and explain afterwards where there is a risk of harm.
8. Free and paid listings
The free listing. A basic listing is free.
Paid plans. The directory also has paid plans that add things to a listing, such as a cover picture, links to social media, more branches, a place among the featured listings and a higher position in results. The plans, what each includes and the current prices are on the pricing page of the directory. Prices are in Uganda shillings unless the page says otherwise.
How a paid plan starts. Paid plans are arranged with us directly. The directory does not take payments online. You contact us, we tell you how to pay (for example by mobile money, bank transfer or cash), and when we have confirmed your payment we switch the plan on for the period you paid for, which is a month or a year.
No automatic charges. We do not hold a card or a mobile money number on file, and a plan does not renew by itself. To continue, you pay for the next period.
When a paid period ends. The listing goes back to the free listing. Nothing you entered is deleted, but the things the free listing does not include are no longer shown until you pay again.
Featured listings and position. Featured places and a higher position in results come with a paid plan, and we may also feature a listing ourselves. A featured place is not a recommendation by us.
Refunds. A payment is for a period in advance and, as a rule, is not refunded once the period has begun. We will refund a payment made twice or by mistake, and the unused part of a period, counted in days, if we remove your listing or close your account without a reason given in section 7. We will also refund anything the law requires us to refund.
Changes to plans and prices. We may change the plans and their prices. A change does not affect a period you have already paid for.
9. Your content and ours
Your content stays yours. You keep the rights in the text, logo and pictures you put on a listing. You give us a non-exclusive permission, free of charge, to store, copy, resize, display and publish them as part of the directory, including to search engines and on pages and lists that show several businesses, for as long as the listing is in the directory and for a reasonable time afterwards while copies are removed.
You confirm that you have the right to use everything you put on a listing, including logos and pictures, and that it does not infringe anyone's rights.
Our content. The directory itself, including its design, text, software, names, logos and the way the listings are collected and arranged, belongs to Neptunes or its licensors. These terms do not transfer any of it to you.
10. What you must not do
You must not:
- collect listings or contact details from the directory in bulk, by a program or by hand, to build another directory or database, to sell, or to send messages to the businesses or people listed;
- send unsolicited bulk messages, or messages that are misleading or abusive, to the contacts shown in the directory or through our contact form;
- create a listing that is false or misleading, or pretend to be another person or business;
- claim a listing that is not yours;
- try to break, overload, probe or get round the security of the directory, or its limits on forms and sign-in attempts, or use it to spread harmful code;
- put on a listing anything that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory or threatening, or that infringes someone else's rights;
- use the directory to break the law.
Search engines may index the public pages in the ordinary way, following the rules we publish for them.
Unauthorised access to computer systems and data is an offence under the Computer Misuse Act, 2011.
11. Contacting us and contacting a business
The contact page of the directory sends your message to Neptunes, not to a listed business. To reach a business, use the phone number, email address or website on its listing.
Use the contact page to ask us a question, to report a listing that is wrong, false or about you, to claim a listing, or to ask about verification or a paid plan. Our Privacy Policy explains what happens to a message you send us.
12. Electronic records
You agree that we may deal with you electronically. Notices, records and agreements in electronic form, including your agreement to these terms, are valid between us, as the Electronic Transactions Act, 2011 allows.
13. Our promises and the limits on them
What we promise. We will run the directory with reasonable care.
What we do not promise. As far as the law allows, the directory is provided "as is" and "as available". Listings are written by the businesses themselves or come from public information, and they can be wrong or out of date. We do not promise that any listing is accurate or complete, that the directory will always be available or free of errors, or that a listing will bring a business any customers.
Limit on our liability. As far as the law allows:
- we are not liable for loss that comes from relying on a listing or from dealing with a listed business;
- we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or expected savings, or for any indirect or consequential loss;
- we are not liable for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control;
- our total liability to the owner of a paid listing, for all claims arising in any period of 12 months, is limited to the fees that owner paid us for the directory in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that the law does not allow to be limited or excluded.
Your responsibility for your listing. If someone makes a claim against us because of what you put on a listing, because you had no right to list the business, or because you broke these terms or the law, you will compensate us for the loss and reasonable costs we suffer.
14. Changes
We improve the directory continually and may add, change or remove features.
We may change these terms. We will publish the new version on the directory with its effective date and version number. Where a change matters to businesses with an account, we will tell them at the account's email address at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless the law or a security need requires it sooner. If you keep using the directory after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising from them or from the directory, are governed by the laws of Uganda.
If there is a dispute, we will each first try in good faith to settle it by discussion. Either of us may start this by writing to the other with the details. If the dispute is not settled within 30 days, either of us may take it to the courts of Uganda, which have exclusive jurisdiction. We may both agree in writing to try mediation or arbitration instead.
Nothing in this section stops either of us from asking a court for urgent orders to protect our rights or data.
16. General
If part of these terms does not apply. If a court decides that part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
No waiver. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we may still enforce it later.
Transfer. We may transfer the directory and these terms to a company that takes it over, and we will tell businesses with an account if we do.
Language. These terms are written in English. If they are translated, the English version applies.
17. Contact
Questions about these terms: info@neptunes.co.ug, or the contact page of the directory.
